Vanilla Oat Milk

Oat milk is my favorite milk alternative because it’s the cheapest and the easiest. You simply blend oats and water for 30 seconds, strain it, then add vanilla and maple syrup. That’s it. No soaking necessary. Soaking will actually create a really slimy milk and we don’t want that. Oat milk is also great because it doesn’t have a powerful flavor so it works perfectly with coffee.

Vanilla Oat Milk

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water

  • 2 cup oats

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla bean paste (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)

Directions

  1. To a blender, add the water and oats and blend for 30 seconds. The liquid should look milky. Blend for a little bit longer if necessary but do not over blend it as you might end up with a slimy consistency.

  2. Pour the blended mixture though a fine mesh sieve. Don’t press down on the oat mixture to release more liquid because again, you might get that slimy consistency.  Simply tap the sieve against the bowl to release the remaining liquid.

  3. Whisk in the maple syrup and vanilla bean paste.

  4. Store covered in the fridge up to about four days.
